Newt's Back! Epic Road Trip!

It was off to Ingonish for Newt and her buddy Freya. Newt is no stranger to road trips, but has not been to the Highlands of Cape Breton. It was also Newt's first trip on a cable ferry.

Road trips are very tiring. It is essential to get many naps during the parts where there is nothing good to see. One lap is more than enough for 2 chihuahus.

Finally something to see. A quick stop at a scenic lookout. Wow, that is a lot of water, far more than a desert dog needs.

Hey, what's that? Newt's namesake. We found this little fella swimming on our first hike of the trip. It was a around a man made lake. That seemed very odd to me that a tiny man made lake even existed in the Cape Breton Highlands.
Now, onto some more hiking and climbing up on some huge rocks. Many people don't think that Chi's can make such hikes. These 2 beg to differ.

Ah, the majestic Newt. Patiently waiting while her owner tries to get that perfect shot.

Freya believes that swimming is a horrible thing.

Newt agrees.
Then after  along eventful day, it is time for 2 pups to collapse on a "soft" bed and dream of an awesome breakfast the next morning.

Newt's New Friend

Well it happened. Newt got a buddy. A new BFF as it were. Freya has come to join the family. A cute little Long haired Chihuahua. Well BFF might be a bit strong just yet. newt does have to get over the shock of sharing her love with us, but soon I am sure she will come around and figure out that a playmate her own size will be a good idea. Plus this way newt can hide while children poke at Freya. A win win situation for them as Freya is far more accepting of little kids.

Newt is getting prepped for her first dog show

Tomorrow we will be headed to the Halifax Kennel Club's Winter/Spring dog show in Halifax, NS. Newt is entered as an exhibition dog in the Rally-O competition. That basically means we will be sitting around an watching and if there is a chance maybe stepping into the ring to see what the fuss is all about.

Newt's too new in the Rally-O game (as are we the owners) to bothering entering the competition for real this time, but we felt it would be a good chance for Newt to get accustomed to the sights, sounds, and smells of a dog show.

But of course that means tonight will be bath, comb and nail clipping time. Our girl has to look her best. I will try and post pictures of the procedure later on and hopefully get some pictures at the show.

Christmas Wishes (a little late)

Sometimes you have to wonder why dogs put up with us. Oh yeah, they can't work the can opener.
